can a vortec 350 be put in?

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has ever put a vortec 350 into a 3rd gen?

My brother has a '98 vortec 350 that he picked up because he got a good deal on it. He figured he would use it on some kind of a project car/truck. I am currently working on puting on into a '98 S10 and the 350 works great in them because is is so close to the 4.3's

But, I don't have any idea how it would work with a camaro. My brother found an IROC with a bad motor that he can get cheap (knows the guy). So he was wondering if it would be nearly impossible to put the motor in there?

He has the engine, 4L80E tranny, computer, and wire harness. Is it possible (reasonably) to use this engine with the computer and tranny...or would it be better to just switch it over and make it carb'd?

thanks for any info/insight
Ken

btw...I am putting in a ZZ4 cam, roller rockers, LT1 manifolds and having the computer reprogramed. I'm planning to start with around 320-330hp. My brother would probably do the same. He would maybe use headers since they would fit better and benifit more than in the s10.

the motor will fit w/ no problems...a VORTEC 350 means that it has Vortec heads and im guessing the Vortec fuel injection on it as well. switching it to carbed is an idea as well, put an adjustable fuel pressure regulator in there and just use the stock in tank fuel pump. my car used to be TPI so i would know..

the tranny,im not sure about. u would probably have to get a custom crossmember. u might even just use the 700-R4 thats in that Camaro already (if its an auto).

hope that helps a little

Should go in no problem, except for the intake. if the car is a TPI'd car then youll have to use a custom lower intake, i know someone makes them i just forgot who... maybe someone else can help us out on this one? If it has a carb then youll have to use a vortec style intake, my advise would be a performer RPM air-gap from edelbrock, you may have to buy a carb adapter if your going to use the stock quadrajet (if its a carb'd car).

SDCP makes the TPI manifold so you can use the Vortec heads. I have a350 ith Vortec heads I am building and was planning on using a tpi induction setup but am going keep the TBI setup on my 92 RS and go with the 454 tbi.
