Will an q-jet from an 87 work for my 86?

I found a carb on ebay, its off an 87, it also comes with the manifold, all real cheap like (price wise)
I was just wondering, would it all fit up on my 86?
I really need a stock carb right now, just to move the car, so if anyone has one for sell, PLEASE GOD, sell it to me

But yea, will an 87 fit on my 86?

ya ya they flow awsome when tuned right but why? when you can get an holly or Edelbrock. also you can bolt on a edelbrock and a aluminm intake maifold and gain dencent numbers! do you have fi now? is so some modifcaions need to be made! if not the only problem you should have is egr..but a good site to get info on the swap is http://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/

Ah, I have an edelbrock ready to throw on, but I have ran out of money, and I can't upgrade the distributor, or change the manifold over (for hood clearance) as I can't afford either of them right now.

I figured that since I'm in a bind, I can just buy one real fast, and it will put gas in the engine (hence the car can move), cause I'm moving soon, and if I can't take (drive) the camaro, then I have to sell it, and even with all the new parts on the car, I would only get 600 bucks for it if I smooth talked someone real good (I've spent almost 7k on it so far)

I was thinking I could rebuild it, but finding a rebuild kit for a q-jet around where I live is like running into a church and screaming that your a canibal, people just look at you funny

Everyone just goes "But why? buy an edelbrock or holley, their better then rochesters" but noone understands, I have an edelbrock, I just need an intake, and a distributor to match up with it, or my car will run like ****, and I can't afford them right now

So right now, I'm looking at a rochester on Ebay for 50 bucks, and I really want to buy it, but only if it would run all good, later, when I'm not in the bind of moving and such, I will worry about performance

I am also looking at maybe how I could get the edelbrock working properly for fairly cheap, but I don't know what all needs to be fixed and such, I just figure that buying a rebuilt q-jet would be the easiest for right now.

It'll run like *** if you don't have the right ECM and HEI system for it, since the 87's came with computer controlled carbs (ask me how I know... then look in sig).

But it'll bolt right on.

May have a freshly rebuilt Holley 650 for sale if you want it.

Nope

I havent bought a carb yet, I'm still waiting for replies from afew people, I'm abit gunshy on buying a carb online (ebay) I would feel abit better buying one from someone on this site, as this site is Camaro related, and alot of you know what your talking about when it comes to carbs, plus, the only carb on ebay that I have seen, the guy is nice, but doesn't know jack (I mean, who doesn't know jack right )
Plus I will have to replace the base of his carb with the base of mine, his is abit messed up on the underportion, which leads me to believe that when he says "It runs" he means "I need money"
But all in all, I'm waiting until about tomarrow, then going with whatever I got, He's selling his for 50 bucks, which is perfect for my budget
But he doesn't know if theres any problems with it, or how many miles are on it, it was rebuilt 3 years ago, and pulled off for TPI, but thats all he says, he sent pic, but they are to big to post here (I could post them, but it would just take to long to load for all the dial up users like myself )

Why? do you have a carb **smiles** do ya do ya do ya?
Again, I really need a good carb, someone has to have one out there somewhere, GM put q-jets on everything in the 80s
it just has to be CC

Other then that, thank you all for your help

Damn, its a shame you didnt post a few months ago, i could have given you the one off the 88' police interceptor i had. (It was a highway undercover car from Jersey, so it had the L69 HO out of the 87 IROC) instead of the usual 350

I have yet to see a holley or edelbrock on a street driven motor out perform a Rochester Q-jet that has been equally tuned (rod/hanger/spring adjustment) and used with a comparable manifold. Just last weekend on Horsepower TV they tuned the **** out of a holley just to get it to put out 4 more hp than the stock Q-jet.
