Just wondering what years of gears interchange between Camaro's and S-10's? I need something to replace my lame 2.73 rear gears and would prefer 3.73's or even maybe 3.42's. I am sure I'll need the carrier too because I don't think my 2.73 carrier will work. I prefer not using spacers.

My Camaro is a '87, does anyone know if I have 26 or 28 spline axles? Thanks guys.

 

if the s10 gears are for a 7.5 or 7.625 rearend then yes they will work in your rear. as far as axle splines, i "think" yours would still be 26. 88 i believe was the changover year for f body's. and as far as using a spacer, you could always bypass the s10 gears, and get some out of summit or something, they do make 3 series gears to fit a 2 series carrier. that is how my car is, simply due to the fact that i got all my parts cheap, that way there is no spacer, persay.... the ring gear is just extremely thick. but in my opinion this may help prevent the gear from flexing and such

also all my info is assuming you have a 10 bolt rear, and not that australian 9 bolt, its a whole nother ball game

 

actually it does make it a bit stronger on the ring gear, but the posi unit (if there is one) isnt quite as strong as the 3 series carrier.

I know I don't have a 9 bolt Borg-Warner, I wish I did...I hear they are pretty tough.

I thought '88 was the switch year for 28 spline axles. I might have to dig up some 28's to replace my 26's. There is a posi carrier I have my eye on at a wreaking yard that has 28 spline axles.
