what transmission is behind a 82 6 cylinder??

What transmission are in 82 camaro 6 cylinders, are they 700R4's?

if they are what are the difference between them and a 92 RS 700R4?

Will it bolt up to a 89 350 TPI or a 92 305 TBI?

Thanks
John

I know my 84 had a 700R4. Not sure about what you have. May be a 200R4. Anyway, if it is a 700R4, the stall might be different. Besides, the 92 will be updated with all the lates technology as to what causes problems. When they first used the 700R4, they were supposed to be problematic.

All the auto's were 700r4's, they were updated and beefed up slightly starting in 1988, so these are the ones to use. There aren't any compatibility prob's that I know of... The 1993 1/2 up had electronic shift controllers and are harder to retrofit.

The one major compatibility problem is that the bellhousing of the V6 tranny physically won't bolt up to a V8 block.

I don't know if its a 200 or 700 but either way if it came off a V6 (other than a 4.3) then it won't work. And they didn't use 4.3s in '82.

700r4's did not come as the standard auto tranny untill 84.

it is definately not a 200r4, those were mostly in g bodys

it is most likely a turbo hydromatic 200. just a basic 3 speed auto similar to a th350. but far less durable.

and if it is from the 2.8 l v6 which is the stock v6 for our cars, no it will not bolt up to any v8

look at the trans pan it will probly have metric stamped on it

it is not only the bellhousing that is smaller the whole thing is smaller i had my old one and the new one side by side during my engine swap and my old one was a 200 r4 but my car is a 87 so they may have changed somewhere between 82 and 87
