Will 79 rear end fit 92?

I'm looking for a new rear end for my 92 firebird. I may have found a nice one out of a 79 firebird. Will it fit? If so will it fit well and with stock 92 wheels?

What brakes do you have in the rear? Disk or drum?

Will it fit? Yes it will, but not without serious modification. That firebird rear end is made for leaf springs not control arms. You can make it fit if you are good with a welder and you can fabricate well.

Not exactly a bolt in. It will require way to much work and effort to make it fit. Why not find a 3rd Gen 9-bolt if you want a better rear. Just my opinion....

Second gen diffs are also wider than first and third gen.

ah, leaf springs, I should have thought of that. I'm not interested in any more fabrication. Thanks guys.

Not unless you have something custom made. There's one available for the 9" because it can easily be welded onto the steel housing. The GM diffs are cast and not as easily to weld to. You don't want a poor weld to break off the diff.
