My old roomate had an '88 GTA and he bought one of those big window banners that say TRANS AM just so people would quit calling it a Camaro. It got him real riled up. Also it seems that everyone that refers to a fourth gen calls them Trans Ams instead of Formula, Firebird, Camaro, Z28, SS, that drives me nuts, they are all different cars.

When someone says to me, "Nice IROC" I look at them and say, "thanks, but I don't own an IROC" I usually get a confused look from them after that

Wow yea I didnt think of that one but I hear it every once in a while - just because the RS is the base model doesnt mean it only comes with the base engine.

On the 4th generations... isnt the RS just a package for ground effects?

Well if you have a RS then it is not a LB9 305 TPI unless you made a engine or intake swap. What you may have is LO3 170 Hp TBI.

Hell I've got a friend who can't figure out that my Z is not a Firebird. Not that it pisses me off I like 3rd gen 'birds too, but let's get it right.

I own an Iroc, but i don't have the stickers on the side (rolling primer), no badges accept inside, so the only indicator is the iroc wheels and the hood (no louvers, but still has the indents).

I have yet to hear some one call it an Iroc, it's usualy either just "camaro" or once even called a Monte Carlo. (probably because of the front lights) :-) LOL!

Everyt time I stop for gas, or go anywhere where there are "car people" I always hear "what color you gonna paint it? I'd paint it red!" at first it was cool, but now it's almost anoying... and no, it's not gonna be red.

And people at my college ask me about the engine (probably because they can hear it all the way inside), I tell them it's a 350, and they say, "Is that a V8? Can you spin the tires?"

Non car people are funny :-) But, I suppose they get a kick out of what ever we say about their hobby.

On what to call it, if people ask "just tell them its a Camaro or Firebird. If they know anything about cars they will ask what model and then you can say its a IROC-Z / TransAm & Etc.
Otherwise just save your breath because they don't know or care.

International Race Of Champions.............

.................Think this is the reason? A lot of people watch these races and don't know squat about cars, let alone Camaros. You bird guy's are next, they will start calling your cars IROC too! I guess it would bother me also, but I own one and never noticed.hehe!

You can get an RS with a TPI, have you ever heard of a B4C?
