Why do these sub-frame connectors look so funny?

Ya, my friend (whose name is *also* matt) has a hookup for me at a local Midas; hell, welding up my entire cat and cat-back will cost somewhere in the $100 range more than likely
But don't forget; my exhaust is already out of the car, so it's not like Midas will have to take down my exhaust, weld on the sf'cs, then weld back up the exhaust

Just curious,what is on the other end? Sounds like they may be bolt in's,which can be welded also.

The other end is, from what I remember (they are in the back of the Bronco right now..) open. It's just an open square.
