Post Whoo Hoo my car is N/A and now it sounds like i got a blower

The tranny is actually making the noise, i have a regular 88' t-5 tranny. 1-3 gear makes a whistling noise. Guess the bearings are fried. But for some reason the car is still running fine and tranny is shifting fine. When i run against someone they think im running a blower in my car. I have come across a guy who's selling bearings for a World Class T-5 tranny. Could i fit the WCT bearings into the regular T-5 tranny? thanx

I have the same whine in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear.. and in 5th if you listen REALLLL careful with windows up.. The T5 was rebuild a year before i bought the car, so I thought it was a bad throwout bearing.. maybe worn gears? Im not sure. If you are idling, with the shifter in nuetral and you take your foot off the clutch, to you get a little groan from the T5?? and when you put the clutch pedal in, does it go away?

its probably the bearing behind the input shaft, i have a friend with an s-10 that does that, it still shifts great, but driver beware, if you drive it that way long enough, it will eventually lock up, he has had it happen twice, if you replace the bearing soon enough you might be able to prevent any further damage

It could be the bearing, or it could be the main drive gear as seen in this picture:

This tranny had lost every gear except 4th (direct drive) since its the only gear that does not rely on the countershaft.

thanx for the replies guys,
forgot to mention that the whisle sound dosent happen in neutral, It makes a split second sound when i change the gear as well. Reason why i think its the T-5 bearings is cause of my stupidity, while racing instead of hitting 4th gear i went to 2nd, yeah i know, im a newbie, but i've done it 4 times already, plus my motor has well over 380ft lbs of torque. Im guessing i need a new T-5 anyway cause 1st gear occasionaly pops back to neutral. It happened 4 times in a 6 month period.

The bearings are not interchangeable between the WC T5 and the NWC version; actually, there is very little that will swap between the two.
