Where to get sway bars?

I have been wanting to get some installed but don't know much about them. Can I install them with the usual tools are do I need to weld? Where can I get them for a good price? Any tips for me? Thanks.

You can do it yourself in the driveway. Common hand tools plus some kind of powered cutting tool- sawzall or grinder. The bars themselves are held to the frame or axle by 2 retainers that just bolt on- simple. The end links, however, are usually rusty to the point that there's NO chance of just unscrewing them and reusing them (you wouldn't want to anyway). You can buy stock replacements for about $5 each. Aftermarket poly bushing end links can usually be had about about $8-9 each. Cut the old ones off by cutting the link in half and then sliding the stuff off either end (with some "persuasion")

Cheap bars are as close as you local junk yard. You can find an IROC or T/A with 16" wheels it might have stronger/larger diameter bars on it than your current ones. Aftermarket, check with Hotchkis (not cheap) and other suspension companies- or look for used aftermarket bars on ebay.

you shouldn't even need the cutting tools...it's all just bolts.

but something you should know. as far as i know your car, being a V6 model didn't come with a rear sway bar as far as i know. this means you don't have the hardware to mount one. most sway bar kits reuse alot of the old hardware.

someone mentioned that JC Whitney sells mounting kits for your application though.

i would look into BMR, www.bmrfabrication.com , they have good bar kits. i bought mine for my 4th gen, 32/21mm solid bars WITH poly bushings AND poly end links for about $325 shipped.

Don't waste your money on aftermarket sways. Look in the classifieds here and over at ww.thirdgen.org for either "1LE" or "WS6" sway bars. I picked up a set of sway bars off an original 1LE car locally for $50. Even the common IROC or TA bars would be an improvement.

Changing them is just like Damon said, and chances are the links will be rusted solid

So being a V6 will I have problems mounting them like mentioned above? I don't have alot of power, but I want better handling and less body flex.

I've got a set of GTA (Mackdaddy Version) sway bars I'll give you for $60+shipping. I'm getting rid of everything I can from the car so can give you the mounting hardware and stuff too. Let me know. I can pull them this weekend and have them shipped by Monday.

i went with 1-le bars....try to find them through a junkyard if possible. they work quite well. you shouldn't need special tools however on our older cars things tend to be rusted up. i know i had to torch off a few links when i started modding.

good luck.

sway bars will greatly improve handling...

subframe connectors will make a huge improvement on body flex (and in turn handling).

Spray the bolts you want to remove with penetrant because you don't want them breaking out and having to drill them out. Ask me how I know.
