What's wrong with my car?

My 92 rs is driving very poorly.I have a 3.1 v6and it idles very rough, almost as if it is going to die. When I drive it,it makes no powerand speed is slowly achieved. It surges when I hit the gas, what I mean by that, when I give it gas it seems like its missing and then it makes alittle power, misses again, power, miss, power, miss.Would new plugs help?I justchanged the oil,and put in some injector cleaner.Any help would be appreciated.

Well it sounds like it could be a couple of things, Start with a decent tune up plugs, wires, etc.

Have you checked the EGR? They can cause bad idle and poor drivability.

Clogged cat? I had almost the exact same symptoms on one of my other cars and it turned out to be a clogged cat.

Check your fuel Filter while you are at it, My car did the same thing this last summer. Changed it & it works just fine.

All of the above comments are great, so check everything out

If it was your cat you'd hear crap rattleing around inside it, otherwise take a rubber mallet and see if you hear anything loose inside.

If you have not done any tune-up type maintenance lately, I'd do it all. Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter, air filter and PCV.

Look to see if your EGR is working, you can see the diaphragm move if it is working correctly.

It could very well be your MAF as well. Take yours off and look to see if the chip inside is burnt or melted.

Good luck.....
