what would you do?

I got the engine back but have some questions regarding 2 picture. In one picture there is a hole in the block located near where you would put a mechanical fuel pump. The other is located on the same area but on the oustide where it looks like they tried to add material to plug up a hole. The items are circled in red. What would you recommend I do?

Here are the pics:

Thanks for the reply I will try again but a block off plate will not cure the problem.

I dk what your looking at, maybe its the hole where the rod comes through for the FP. If it doesnt matter just buy a block off plate. I cant say for sure because the pictures wont come up.

In the first pict. This is an alignment hole for machining and usually does not protrude into the fuel pump push rod cavity.
Look at the front of the block. If it does open into the fuel pump cavity your going to have to fill it, weld or epoxy, or you'll get an oil leak.

In the second pict. This just looks like crud to me, take a scraper or knife and see if it come off.

The hole is visible inthe front of the block and as for the second picture, I tried scraping it before when I first noticed it. I think they tried to weld a crack onthe block. I will have to send the shortblock back. Who nknows what else maybe wrong with the block. Thanks for the help.

The shop should have Magnaflux'ed the block for cracks and imperfections. And told you that they found so you could make a decision, before welding anything.

Good luck
