What would you do?

I have a 1990 GTA that is in flawless cosmetic condition and runs very well. I have the 305 tpi with 119XXX miles on it. This spring I will have a nice pot of cash, would you drop in a crate engine, do an L98 longblock swap, or just put the money on a 4th gen and deal with with possible car payments. Thanks for any suggestions.

id keep the gta stock and build up another third gen. keeps the insurance low and the fun high. and you have an original rare mint car to be your baby

How much will you have?

4th gen will run you more in insurance and won't get you more than a L98 with good intakes and a reprogrammed EPROM.

When you tell us how much you are going to spend, we will have better answers.

I doubt a 305 GTA is going to be a collector's item for a while. I've got an 87 GTA that's being transformed into a 9 second "street" car at the moment. It sounds like you have a pretty nice ride already. If you just want more power, I would go with a GMPP HT383 motor, swap in the LT4 hot cam or a ZZ9 and valve springs, do the SD Vortec TPI base, some new injectors, and a custom chip and go have some fun breaking the transmission or more likely the rearend. Probably not the cheapest setup, but definately reliable and very streetable. LOTS of low end torque (aka tire boiling, set your butt in the seat fun). Or if you want to go a little cheaper, the 350 HO engine with the above mentioned additions, probably about half the price of the 383.

Build up an engine with the money you have. Drop it in when more money allows Budget times 2. You'll see why when yer there.
