What type of wheel stud do I need to buy?

I'm buying a set of Moser 10-bolt axles for my '91 Camaro and need to know what the specs are for ordering wheel studs to go along with them. I want them to fit the M12 x 1.5 stock wheel lugs.

Here's the specs on my car:
Rear Drum
7.625" Ring Gear
M12 x 1.5 Lugs

I measure the length and it looks to me to be 1-9/16" but it could be 1-1/2" since this seems to be the typical ordering size.

What I'm confused about is what is the right:
  • Knurl Length
  • Knurl Diameter
  • Under Head Length (UHL)
  • Nose Length (if any)
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Jeff

Call Moroso Racing and ask them this same question and give them a part # on the axles you have

What about length? I talked to a racing friend of mine and he said that some racing organizations mandate a certain stud length to ensure that tires don't go flyin' off!

He recommended I go with a 2.5" UHL as opposed to the stock 1.5" which he said was likely not allowed at some tracks. The only thing I wasn't sure about was the wheel lugs.

They are open, so the studs should go right though, correct? Is there anything wrong with the studs sticking out of the lug? If anything I'd think it would be more stable because there is probably more threads holding on the lug.

Most of the people I see at the track are running either 2" or 3" lug studs. I personally have 2" in my 12 bolt and they came that way with the rearend from Strange Engineering. The track also wants the studs to be all thread and screw in.

No there is nothing wrong with your studs sticking out through your lug nut a little bit. It will be fine like that.

I believe that the NHRA rule is that the stud must stick out by a distance equal to or greater than the stud's diameter. (so if the studs were 1/2" in diameter, they would have to stick out 1/2" in order to be legal).

Someone with a rulebook is gonna have to verify that one though, I don't remember their exact wording.

The answer to this would be cost. I'm rebuilding the 10-bolt because if I tried buying a new axle setup I would be way out of my price range.

I know a lot of people talk trash on the 10-bolt and I'm sure some of it is waranted. But it's not like I'm dropping in a torque monster 600 HP engine in this thing! My goal is only to upgrade the 10-bolt to handle about a 350HP engine which is still planned for 3 -4 years down the road.
