what tranny is this? 4sp

t's a manual four speed that I took out of a 82 Trans Am. It looks like my other 82 Borg Warner but does not say Borg Warner anywhere. Can someone run numbers for me or tell me where to run them? It says GM and has number codes everywhere. Numbers=3925656, 6261886, 3859033, 2183, 2189. A friend told me it looks just like a Muncie but I have no idea. If anyone knows how much it's worth that would help too. Thanks in advance for any help.

If I remember right, that's a T-10 with a 3.42 first gear. Of course that's from memory so that might not be worth too much

If it has 7 bolts on the side cover and is aluminum with reverse in the tail housing, it's a Muncie. B/W will have 9 bolts and say Borg/Warner on the tail housing right by reverse lever.

Muncie pic available here in the transmission section, top of the page:

well it has 7 bolts on the cover so I guess it is a Muncie. As far as it being Aluminum, would that be the whole Tranny because a magnet sticks everywhere. From what I'm told Muncie's are way stronger than Borg Warner's is this true? Does anyone know how much this Tranny is worth? It is in perfect working condition and has a Hurst shifter. How much is the Borg Warner worth in comparison to the Muncie? I have 2 trannies and only need one. Thanks Guys.

o would lean toward saginaw, because muncie was not a factory item, so unless someone put it there, it ain't no muncie

If it has the reverse lever going to the tailshaft, and is aluminum case, and doesn't say Borg Warner on it, it's a Muncie. Did it look like pic at the site in link?

If all shift levers are going to the side cover, it's a Saginaw, the weak tranny in the lineup.

Muncie and Super T-10 are comparable in strenght and value. Unless it's an M22 Muncie, in which case it's worth buxxxx.

now I guess it's a Saginaw. Thanks guys for helping me figure it out. How much stronger is my Borg Warner than the Saginaw? How much HP can they handle? I figured it was a Muncie because none of the car was original. It had a 350 with big heads and the tranny wasn't the same as the Borg Warner in my 82. Would GM have put Borg warner's and Saginaw's in the same year? Will the Hurst shifter off the Saginaw fit the Borg Warner?

Thanks Guys
