Re: What temp thermostat?

its what i do best iyou should see my throttle linkage right now

i recently removed the ridges on a TB that i got from a frined it was out of a blazer or something and widened them a bit sanded them down and smoothed them out after that i found a helix power stack laying around think of it as a velocity stack for a TBI unit it raises the unit by an inch and the throttle bores it has have a helical cut to them "supposedly" it helps with the atomization of fuel and "may" give up to 22 horsepoer and 25 foot lbs of torque as well as "up to" 6 mpg extra.
i did notice a difference but i put it on mainly cause i was bored and needed something to do like last week i decided to pull out my dash i need to fix the vent routing anyway so i pulled the think out and tore out all the airbag wiring and some othe **** that i didnt like and tore apart my gauges and reset the odometer since im gonna drop a new motor in anyway. but back to the throttle linkage the throttle bracket on the tb unit is different from the camaro's and to change the linkage weould require removing the plates and thats too much of a pain in the *** so i have the throttle cable held on by a cotter pin i fed through it and than rapped around the peg it mounts on the cruise is laying there cause its useless anyway and the TV cable is held on by part of a key ring i stretched out.

^Yowie; that sounds like a sexy car. I like the idea of having a black car with cherry accents
And by IROC-Z hood, you mean the Louvered hood right?
Why are you gonna put TPI on the car? What it have now, TBI?

Re: What temp thermostat?

I had a 89 rs that use a 195* thermostat but i always used a 160* to make it run cooler. Remeber a cooler engine is a stronger engine.

did you read what i said the 160 thermostat you used iis allowing the coolant to run cooler not the engine chances are the engine is running around 200 and since by than the thermostat is fully open the coolant is flowing so fast that it doesnt have time to absorb the engines heat.

Well if thats "always" true why does most proformance chips on the market today require a 160* thermostat?

I was running a Hypertech chip the required a 160* thermostat

cant answer that since i didnt design the chip im just giving the facts on how thermostats work not how they work with performance chips because truthfully i dont know.
either way what i said is true the engine is most likely running in the 190 to 200+ degree range since the 160 fully opens at about 180 and aty that point you just have an unrestricted coolant system. it still absorbs heat but it doesnt have the time to absorb as much heaat as it could if the thermostat opened at a higher temp. effectively after 180 you baisically dont have a thermostat.

Hm... I deff. wouldn't go w/ TPI as your next choice of intake as TPI runs out of steam very early on. I would go w/ a Holley Stealth Ram or Mini Ram if you can afford it.

But yes, I would LOVE to see some pics
