The spare is a stow away mini tire with a can of compressed air. The tire is not even inflated. It sits under the rear panel on the passenger side behind the rear tire. Take out the big plastic screws and remove the cover. The jack is in there as well.

 

Not all cars got the cool space saver aluminum spare. My 86 Didn't but my 88 does.

 

The Space Saving spare tire also came with the Steel wheel on all Limited Slip & 16" wheel equiped cars.

 

FYI, the can of compressed air is really C02, and can be refilled by a fire extinguisher servicing company for a few bucks. Mine cost about 5.00 for them to fill.

I was surprised that I had a brand new unused aluminum spare in there. They acctually look pretty decent, slap a pair on the front and run them as skinnies.
