Question What problems will I have with a 383??

Hey Guys I am in the process of building a 383 to go into an 88 to 92 Camaro. My question is How hard will it be to install a motor with a carb? I plan on pulling the old motor with the T.P.I. I was told that these cars have 2 computers 1 for the engine & drivtrain and 1 for the rest of the car. Is this true? also Where would be a good place to look for suspension parts? I know this thing will have problems hooking up? What is the company G2 or G3 I have seen it in alot of guys Sig.s.
Thanks Ahead of time Guys
Tony

Well, I put a 383 in my 86 Z as a replacement for a 305, and ended up just ripping all the computer stuff out. It wasn't TOO much work, but I also pulled the EGR stuff off too. Biggest problem was a twisted frame (before Sub-Frame connectors) and a blown tranny:-)

Same thing here. Got rid of the computer and all the unwanted wiring. Cleaned up the engine bay alot. You will need to buy stock in your favorite tire company, cause your going to be sending them alot. I sure do!

I went from 305 TBI to 358 carb. Was super simple. Just drop the motor in, get a $4 relay from a local parts store for a fuel pump. Hook it up in place of the stock relay so that when the ignition is turned on, the stock fuel pump will work. Get a Holley Blue (if TPI, get two Holley Blue) fuel pressure regulators. Hook them up to stock fuel line comming into engine compartment from tank. On the second one (from where you will hook up your carb), run a return line to the stock return line. Hook up your carb, your distributor using pretty much the stock wiring harness, and you are good to go. If auto trans, then you will have to wire in a switch for lockup, but ask someone else about that. Your stock computer you can yank and throw out, car will work fine and that fuel pump will keep up ok 360 HP or even more. Best of all, if you keep your computer in there and harness intact, you can always bolt the EFI back in.

When the key is in run possition, fuel pump will work, if the motor is not running, the return line will return the excess fuel back into the tank. Nice, simple. You can use all your stock accesories, electric fans (need a swtich for that, but no big deal), etc. Everything will work good. Any more questions, just e-mail me.

everything has been pretty much summed up. i switched to carb and so far have left the harness and computer in there mostly because lack of time ripping everyting out. you dont necassirly have to wired up a switch for the torque converter but to do it click the link below.
