What is the piston ring land?

I was reading a conversation in forced induction, and they were talking about how high boost causes "ring land" failure, what is that? My only guess is that the the walls on either side of the groove the rings sits in breaks...

thnx

Correct, usually the top breaks exposing the piston ring.
