I don't understand how 5W30 Synth can be different in viscosity than 5W30 mineral.
It is, it pours faster and doesn't "string" like conventional, more like water. That's why I always go up to 10w 30 synthetic, and I put new Havoline Synthetic in my wifes Park Ultra SC every 7500 miles, good filter every 2 months..

Synthetic also doesn't seem to thicken up in cold weather. Shoot, I actually had 15-50 in my truck one winter, and the thing cranked right up, strong as in the winter, even in 2 degree weather. If you want a clean engine, and superb lubricating properties, spend the extra 2 bucks a quart for synthetic.

Like someone else mentioned. High end cars come with Mobil 1 from the factory. I wonder why?.......

I am running the Valvoline High Mileage oil in my car but that is because it has 86k on it and I don't see the point in wasting money on synthetic. Once I get my new motor put in I am going to switch to M1. My dad runs M1 in his 2002 Z28 though.

krazzycowgirl If you go to syth. then you have to watch for leaks. Syths are thiner oil & can leak really bad. If you are running a stock engine & no rebuild or reseal stay away until you do.
I use mobil 1 sythetic with 115k and i have not a single leak, the motor has not been rebuilt or resealed. not only do i not have any leaks, but the engine bay and under car look brand new, maybe you just dont take car of your car?
5W30 btw

Thank you but I have a 136k miles ( i have own this car for 3yrs & bought it with 119k) on my car & it still runs strong.
My car oil gets changed ever 2500 miles & a full tune up 3 times a year.

If you do a search you know that other people have stated the same fact. either on this site or on TGO.

Synthetics flow better not because they are thinner than comparable weight oils, but because they have a uniform molecular structure rather than a random molecular pattern of dino oil. I've run synthetics, Mobil 1 for 100,000 miles then switched over to Amsoil and now have 220,000 miles on my L98 and it still runs very strong. with no smoking (except typical Chevy startup puff) and it burns no measurable amount between changes.

BTW I change oil at 6,000 miles and a filter and top off at 3,000 between changes

Always have used synthetics, currenty mobile1 0w40. Went to wallmart to buy some mobile 1, was about 28.00 a case of 6. Then went to the lube departmentment in store and they charged 27.99 for mobile 1 0w40 and they changed the oil, so was cheaper than buying it. I just bought a $2.00 supertech oil filter and they even gave me the 1/2 quart of mobile that was left over. Hopefully they didn't mess up and charge me less than they should have, because that was a excellent price.

You spend $28 on oil, yet you buy a $2 filter?
I pay $19.95 for a 5qt container of M1 at walmart. It makes life that much easier, just one bottle to pour in, not give. I use NAPA brand filters, they are actually pretty good filters.
