what kind of cam???

i got an 87 iroc 350 tpi 5 spd and im looking into getting a cam but dont know what kind. the car is all stock except the exaust and suspension. going to get new intake, tb, and maybe a super ram in the near future and want them all to compliment each other. heard a hot cam with 1.6 rockers is pretty straight but need some more info on the details on exactly what to get.... thanks

I'd go with an LPE216 cam 213/219 496/503 (I think on a 1.6 rocker) 112LSA

I ran a TPIS ZZ9 cam (212/226 @ .050 .483/.520 112 LSA) on my old LTR set-up with 1.6 intake and 1.5 exhaust and liked it, but still wanted more. Thats when I went with a Miniram and never looked back!

A Superam or Stealth ram would be a good choice too.

Dont be afraid to give Comp Cams tech help a call, either! They know cams well enough to put you in the ballpark for your particular combo. With stock L98 heads, you have to watch yourself on duration and lift. The L98 heads flow only 200 cfm or so on the intake side, and anything over half-inch of lift is going to be really close to the maximum capabilities of those heads: You might end up banging the valve retainer into the valve stem seal.

Randy and MKOS's suggestions sound like they are in the ballpark: I wouldn't go any bigger.

Stock heads will hit the retainers against the guide seals at about .470" lift. If you're not going to yank the heads and have them machined for more clearance you should stay under that amount of lift. The LT4 "Hotcam" is .525/.525" lift with 1.6 rockers, so there's no way you're going to run that with stock, unmodified heads.
