What is involved in putting on a wonder-bar?

Well, what needs to be done? Does sh*t need to be removed, or is it direct bolt-in?
Thanks
Matt

Correct term is Steering Box Support (AKA wonder Bar) not really a handling part. Came stock on 3rd gen IROC models for additional strength in the box area for stress from the then new 245/50/16 tires. Can be bolted on with no problems depending on Mfg. I would go with a STB before this part. Note: My 87 IROC has a Steering Box Support stock.

I have a whole bunch of those at the shop, but I have never heard them called a wonder-bar.

Ya, I am reffering to the steering box support that came stock on IROC's, as the steering box's are prone to cracking.
Hey Dahaus, you looking to sell one of those "steering box supports"?
I still dont understand what is involved on installing one. Where exactly does it bolt-up to?
And where can I find a STB for a Carb'd Camaro? All I seem to be able to find is the TPI and TBI STB's

LOL...I thought we were talking about the Wonder-Bar radio from the 50's. I wondered why someone wanted to put that in a late model car.

Re: What is involved in putting on a wonder-bar?

Gunny's install directions are correct. The only thing to really add is that certain aftermarket Wonderbars (like the TDS design) use 2 more bolts to mount them. The bolts are right next to the sway bar bushings bolts. I can get pictures if anyone wants to see.

85_305, Gunny is also right on the TBI STBs working on carbed cars. The only problem some carbed guys have is that the TBI STB will hit and interfere with cars with the AC compressor on the driver's side. If you ditched AC, it's not a problem, of course. But if you still have AC, I have heard that you can shim the STB mounting cups or slightly modify the STB to work. A quick search on TGO should yield the answer.

85 305, keep me updated if you find a wonder bar. I live about 300 miles from my shop right and don't get up there very often. It really sucks!!!! But, when I do make it up there, I will look for one of my extras. If they haven't mysteriously walked off. It's funny how that happens.

I did my wonder bar in about 20 minutes. However at the time my car was motorless. I don't think it'll really make a difference though

No, they are pretty simple. And, in fact, if you have a welder, some scrap metal, and a good drill, you could build one yourself.

Thats why its nicknamed the "wonder bar" because you just wonder what its dose.
