I really dont know anything about using the laptop to tune and PROM burning, Id be better off chucking the computer and going carb. Im making a trip to Ennis Texas this summer, Texas Motor Speedway, down there im looking to run a 14.3 or so. Anyway, I was pretty happy with a 15.0, there was an LS1 camaro that only pulled a 14.7, that gives you a better idea of how bad our track is.
With a couple hundred thousand miles on it, I have to ask: Have you tuned it up well recently? You might pick up your speed if you just:

1) Have the injectors cleaned and flow matched by a professional.
2) Replace the coil, whole distributor, plugs, and wires. Your distrib. shaft bushing is probably worn and causing spark scatter.
3) Oxygen sensor
4) cleaned the Idle Air Control pintile
5) Put in a new air filter

Re: Weight reduction

It has been been a while since it had a good tune up.
I always run injector cleaner when i change my oil (but i dont know if this actually helps)
I replaced plugs today when i installed my headers and also changed the fuel filter (it was PLUGGED, im surprised my fuel pump hadnt gone out because of it)
O2 sensor looked ok today, but i could be wrong
i dont even know what the idle air control pintile is or what it does
yes i have a K&N that is cleaned every oil change

Re: Weight reduction

With that many miles my Z was running 9.0 - 9.1 in the 1/8th mile. Our track is at 1100 ft. I have not been to the track in quite a while. My time has been very tight in the past 18 months or so and my weekends rotate so I have few weekends on Sat. & Sun. I have completed most of my suspension mods, my complete exhaust system, intake mods, and some prom tuning. The car feels much more powerful especially roll-on power so I helped my upper rpm band. The car now has 230,000 miles and knock on wood it doesn't seem to feel it's age. This 350 is very tough it takes abuse and keeps coming on.

Re: Weight reduction

FWIW, I just talked today with a long-time friend who recently ran his 1990 Trans Am L98 (350 TPI) at the track for the first time. This car was the 1990 SCCA National autocross championship in F-stock. It's 100% stock except for the fact that the injectors have been flow matched, the valve springs have been matched, and the OEM stamped metal rocker arms have been hand-picked. This car has only 40,000 miles on it. In order to compete at the national level, the car has to even maintain stock springs and ride height.

So, Dave's car ran a best of three at 14.38, 14.38. and 14.37, all in the neighborhood of 98 MPH.

There's your baseline for you. 100% Stock 1990 Trans Am, 3.42 gearing, I think.
