Im getting a VSS code on an 87 IROCZ, with a 5spd. There is no VSS on this car, there is only the pulse generator behind the speedometer that I've already changed, I checked the gear in the tranny and its not stripped, but when everything is tight, the speedometer bobs a little at low speeds, and then it wont work at all. Any ideas?

 

look in the end of the driven gear in the trans(where the cable goes in), I have seen the square hole strip, and allow the cable to slow down/not spin
