vortec heads??? help please
i want to put GM vortec heads on a 1990 350 out of a silveraldo it says i need a vortec style intake and self adjusting rockers can i use these on this year 350 and if i can what would be the best brand to use ????
Re: vortec heads??? help please
you definately need the vortec style intake, tbi or carb.you are still required to use the vortec style.as for the rockers you need SELF-ALIGHNING rockers.if they were my heads i would put larger valvesprings on and put screw-in studs as a minimum 2.00 1.56 valves would really be a benifit, you can get scorpion roller rockers for a mild set up or get the comp cams roller rockers for heavy duty rpm loads and strength.......
Re: vortec heads??? help please
You can use non-adjusting rockers but will require guide plates and harden pushrod. Screw in stud is a plus if you plan on high lift/high reving engine. Use of larger valve spring would only be recommended if you go with a high lift cam as well as 1.6 rockers. This will require the heads valve guidesto be machined for higher lift. Do a search on thirdgen.org and you will get alot of info on vortec heads.
Re: vortec heads??? help please
Yea, if you want a decent lift cam then get your valve guides machined, other than that I run an Edelbrock Performer RPM manifold with a carb -> tbi plate. Edelbrock also makes a throttle bracket that you'll want to use with vortec heads.
Re: vortec heads??? help please
