Victor Junior Heads

Hey guys. Was gonna buy some parts to build a sbc to replace my current 355 with RPM heads. I was looking into going to a 388 cid motor with 6" rods and forged pistons. The camshaft I have is a solid roller 242/248 duration at .050 and .570/.577 lift and 112 lsa (1.5 rocker). Intake will be victor junior with a 750 Holley carb.

I was looking at getting some Victor Junior heads. A local shop has some for a good price with valves, I supply my own springs and related stuff. What kind of power with about 10.3:1 CR can I expect out of this combo with Victor Heads? What other heads might be a better choice for close to the same amount of money? What are other general oppinons on these heads? Does anyone have their desktop dyno flow file?

The car is a '88 Trans AM with 3.27 rear gears and th350 wiht a 10" 3200 stall converter. Headers are 1 5/8" on there, but I might look to upgrade.

1. A good price for brand new Vic. Juniors assembled with valves would probably be in the $1100-1250 range and NO more.

2. Edelbrock claims roughly the same flow numbers as AFR's 210cc race head. Roughly a 285CFM peak on the intake(great for an out of the box head, do I believe it? i dunno yet myself) With AFR having a little better low lift numbers.

3. Yes the Vic IS a "race" head but if you're like me, you'd run a set on a street car, along with the other parts you mentioned.

4. My guess, a 383, Vic Jrs, intake, headers, that cam. My guess just for fun would be something in the 480-520 hp range in the 6500-6800 rpm range. With less tq than HP.

5. Edelbrock claims 530 hp "out of the box" with those heads, intake, carb, headers..etc...I don't believe numbers printed for sale purposes. Give me a dyno sheet or a damn timeslip with a weight of the car..hehe

Well, the heads are less then $1,000. The AFRs are a noticalbe amount of money more, then I still have to get the right valvesprings and stuff. Can the victors be ported a bit as well?

I want the car to make 400-430 RWHP somehow.

From what I know, the Vic Jrs can be ported to hell and back basically. And considering they're "old school", a lot of people know the territory well.

Someone let me know if i'm wrong though.
