Is VATS system governed by the ecm?
Is VATS system governed by the ecm?
Just bought a 90 V6 camaro for 100 bux, total steal. Power everything, loaded 80 K. The steering column was fubar so I got a new column, keys and VATS module from a donor car. The vats module is the grey box that says pass key on it right? There was another black box under the dash, what might that be? Anyways its charging up right now and wanted to know if the ecm uses any input from vats or what? I still have the old vats module and chip, so if it does use input from it im going to change chips and module but i figured i would double check first. Thanks in advance.
Re: Is VATS system governed by the ecm?
The ECM looks for a signal from the VATS module when you go to start the car. If it's not there, or if it's not right, the ECM won't pulse the fuel injectors and the car won't start. I don't know if the signal varies with the key resistance, or if they're all the same. I THINK that the signal is the same as long as the chip and module match.
Re: Is VATS system governed by the ecm?
The Key and the Cylinder have to match for the VATS to function.
There are 16 key resistances (I think that is the right number) available.
All the VATS box does is send signals to ECM and Starter relay.
