Tubes Going Into My Headers???

I just bought my car a few days ago, and the previous owner did an motor swap, and put a vette motor in it....but on the right side of the engine, there is a hole tapped into each header tube, then there is a big tube that splits off and feeds each tube of the header...the left side has the same thing but its not hooked up...the big tube has a spark plug jammed in it, and the little holes in the header tubes are capped off....What is this for? Do i need it? Can I just take it right off?

Sounds like he swapped the motor and used emission compliant headers and didn't hook them up. They are for the AIR pump for the emissions and they run to the AIR pump and cats.

u will need a shorter belt and I'm guessing it'll be a serpintine belt, but Goodyear or some other belt company should be able to easily help there. If there is no emissions were u are and won't be, then go ahead, but I suggest u hang onto these vital, and expensive to replace parts if needed later on. I would change the headers then if u remove the AIR system to "offraod" headers and go from there.

You would want to plug up the headers like in that pic with plug caps and take the rest of the smog stuff off and keep it till you need it. See this.

my a/c and altenator are flip flopped in that picture, it must be because its a vette motor...i'll look into it more tomorrow and i'll try to figure something out...because those tubes are really cluttering up my engine bay...and i hate it because the A/C is different than a camaro, so a big tube is runnign from the compresser to the canister on the otherside of the engine bay, so that looks ugly as well, i'll try to figure out a way to make that more appealing too...

Naw, my 87 Iroc had it switched too, my 88 is like the pic.
And u could always remove the AC for less weight, mine was a non AC car and I'm happy with it, also more room to work and if I get hot, take the roof out.

No diff if the AC and alternator are on opposite sides. You still take the same things out.
