True dual exhaust, no cats, this kit, is it possible?!?!
True dual exhaust, no cats, this kit, is it possible?!?!
I heard its nearly impossible to run true dual exhuast on 3rd gen camaros. What about this kit:

I have an 84 z28, I wouldn’t run cats becuase I don’t have to get emissions checked. Any ideas if this setup would work for true dual exhuast (mufflers exiting in front of rear tires) and how power should I expect out of dual exhuast, headers, no cats, and turbo mufflers? I know its not the most expensive or best kit but I don’t care.
thanks,
Sage

Re: True dual exhaust, no cats, this kit, is it possible?!?!
regardless of what people say, it is possible to run dual exhaust on a third gen, however, the floor pan in formed for only one side, so running dual exhaust generally causes the exhaust to hang down about two inches lower than the body of the car, which will cause some bottoming out, unless you go to extensive floor pan modification, which gets pricy. if you dont mind scratched pipes though, just run right under the stock floor pan, any exhaust shop will bend pipe for you, but most will not install a system without cats on any car after 1976, so shop around or plan to do it yourself.

If you run shorties its possible to get a dual exhaust with an X-pipe, and not lose ground clearance. Willie on Thirdgen.org has proven this.
Because with Shorties you can route the driverside pipe as you would with the normal Y-pipe. Then instead of merging them, you run both pipes parallel in the normal route under the floor pan. You can put an Xpipe where you ran the cat.
It is possible, even though you do have a limited choice of mufflers.

Whats the big deal running dual exhaust??? You have problems and expense installing something that is no improvement over the 3" stock exhaust. Again WHY???? I have the SLP 3" catback withthe two 2 1/2 pipes on the left side, now thats different and drives people up a tree.
Re: True dual exhaust, no cats, this kit, is it possible?!?!
i also don't see the point of runnign dual exhaust....you can run 4 inch pipe and prolly have better ground clearance than a half a$$ homemade dual exhaust, and with a single 4 inch, you'll have all the flow you'll ever need!!!a 3 inch or 3.5 inch exhaust is enuf/more than enuf for most 3rd gens..
Re: True dual exhaust, no cats, this kit, is it possible?!?!
I made 3 runs with the 3 in SLP system hooked up and 3 runs with it disconnected before it "Y"s out. The difference was not consistantly one way or the other. This is with a 383 that is cranking out over 400HP. So, will it help if I went with some insane mountain motor and a blower? Probably if I put an X pipe into the equation. On most car motors, probably not. Now, if someone could show me a with and without series of runs, I might be more convinced that it is a good idea.
