Is this true?
I have a 1990 IROC (ofcourse..)and have never had any trouble starting it, freezing cold or blazing hot! I also had a 1986 Camaro coupe...DITTO!.. I know many racers that run the stock starters for durability.(DELCO...not AUTOZONE rebuilds)
As someone said, these are mechanical devices that require average regular maintainance, neglect any make car and you'll have trouble starting them, and more.
The biggest reason cars like BMW, Mercedes etc last so long is the aggressive, costly and frequent maintainance schedules.
I personally had more trouble with my wifes 1986 Accord LXi than my '86 Coupe.
My ROC takes some heavy abuse at the track and on the street and just beggs for more!....BUT I do agressively maintain it. And like a TIMEX," it takes a licking and keeps on ticking"...

As stated by everyone else there are no starting problems with the car. There have been known cases of that but it is because of a sensor or something like that going out. The starter in my car did loose a tooth and that made it hard to start but that isnt bad on an 89 starter. I still dont know how it lasted this long. Buy a 3rd gen you will not be dissapointed trust me.
