Is this true?

As posted here:
http://www.silveradoss.com/forums/in...=ST&f=1&t=358&

If someone here actually owns a 1987-1992 Chevrolet Camaro IROC / Z28 please let me know.. is this true? Do you have problems starting the car or with the engine? If so, I REALLY need to know.. I am considering buying this as my first car.. and if it's going to be too much trouble I might as well just get some Import

Care to quote/repost what is said over there. i dont feel like registering ust to hear some bashing...

I have a 92 z28 and the only time i have trouble with it starting is if i let the car get hot. I have ceramic coated headers which run extremely close and I've been told that's part of the cause of the starter problems. Other than that I have ABSOLUTELY NO starting problems and that problem is very minimal.

I have a 87 IROC that I purchased new and have never had a starting problem. I did replace the battery two times but that is not bad seeing I have had the car going on 16 years. I use a battery maintainer on the cars battery and for $30.00 bucks it was worth it. I just hope I didn't jenks myself. I have also replaced the starter one time. I have headers also that have been on the car since about 1990. I didn't register so you need to give us more info.

I own an 87 Iroc with 350 has had her for almost 2 yrs now Never had any problem starting her unless shes sits like now I havent started her since mid Oct. The only other time I had problems starting her is when her starter went out on her AT the dragstrip.

remember when buying a used car/truck you are buying the old owners problems. No matter how well it was maintained there must of been some sort of problems with the car (or with their finances) for them to sell it.

I had an 87 Iroc and after it would heat up in the summer and then I'd stop for a few mins and try to start it again it wouldn't start. It had to do with the location of the starter. It was a pain in the **** sometimes but if you just waited for 15 minutes it'd cool off and start (although that usually sucks)

My '90 IROC has seen some beatings. Runs like a champ...almost. Never had any problems starting. Yes, like said, if you're worried about quality, buy a new car. There is no way to compare a 10-15 year old car's quality because it's been used, to a new car. It all will depend on how well the car was taken care of.

If we are talking about starters going out it happens. Just remember a starter for our cars is ~25 bucks and your local auto parts store and thats with a lifetime warranty. Can't beat that. I have had longtubes headers on my car for 6 months now and my starter hasnt fried yet.

If your real concerned with the starter and exhaust heat get a remote mount soleniod and mount it on a fender somewhere like fords do. This will help alot actually.

If you want quality buy a newer car...our cars are getting old and your gonna run into problems...or you could just do what I did and MAKE your car a new car

I have a 91 but never had starting problems. I have had headers for years. Not too long ago I changed to the high torque starter but that was a GM one with the bowtie because I have a high compression motor. Even with the stock starter, I have never had any starting problem as long as the battery was good and the engine in good running conditon.

What the hell is your problem. It was a ****ing simple question can't handle that? Just say I don't know/care/give a rats ***

Well

Third Gens are not known for their starting problems. The same years of mustangs are, the new Focus's are. This isn't a flame. If you have the car in your sites. Go to your local dealership to see if there is an ALLDATA bulletin on it.

I have an 89 gta 350 tpi. until I put my headers on I had no problem with starting. Not only can they cause heat soak, but because of where the fuel lines run on a tpi car ,can also cause a form of vapor lock when the car is shut off. This is what happened ,when I installed my slp headers.I have edelbrock now ,and it's much better.

I've found that the easiest way to cure a bunch of problems 3rd gens have as far as starters go is buy a late 80's early 90's S-10
starter for a 4.3 V-6,Smaller,so it doesn't hang as close to the exhaust and being smaller its lighter (easier to take in and out)
and you'll easilly be able to crank over a small block with one.
Hope this helps.
