Trany bad?

Hey i have a 92 camaro RS and the Transmision has been running odd latly. 1st off over the past couple of days it has NOT liked shifting into 3rd while at a higher RPS like in a racing scenerio. now its resently been acting even stranger. Whenever i start to speed up like at a stop light or something it acts like its in nutral and just revs realy high like up to 5k rps then will slowly drop and then the car starts to move. It will go but i have to drive like a old lady and shift every 10 mph or less just to get up a hill. I had to hit 4th gear to get it to go up a multitude of hills just to get up to 40 mph... to make it easyer to explaine i go faster NOT pushing on the gas b/c my rps spike up to hell but the car DOSE NOT GO FASTER. It currently has 125k miles on her. I just replaced her Distributor, Coil, Altinator, Batterie and wiresso i have been puting quite some $$$ into her to get her to run. But i just seem to be running into 1 problem after another. Maby dose the tansmision fluid need to be replaced? Im not at all experienced when it comes to dignosing Transmision problems. Plz help

Re: Trany bad?

smell your fluid...if it smells burnt, your f*cked...it sounds to be like a torque converter problem, and its making your tranny slip a tremendous amount...it could just be the clutches are so worn out too.....but more then likely it sounds like its time for a rebuild...

Re: Trany bad?

You can get it rebuilt for around $500-$700 usually or you can go on ebay or the junk yard and pick up a used one with low miles for $200-$300. You should though replace the torque converter, no matter what you do. Never put a used torque converter on a tranny unless you are 100% positive it is good. B&M sells a nice 2,000 rpm stall for about $200 or you can go stock for cheaper. So most expensive $900 cheapest $400 if you can install yourself. And don't be afraid putting in a tranny is pretty easy.
