Can someone PLEASE help me with this noise??
Can someone PLEASE help me with this noise??
When driving over bumps and ruff roads I hear a chatter sound as if you hit two pots together. The sound comes from under the car. Here is the thing, this sound started after I blew my motor mounts away about a week ago but I had them replaced and I picked the car up to drive it home and heard the sounds again. My first reaction was why the hell is it back and could the sound have come from somewhere else?
I called the mechanic that did the work and he stated the sound probably is coming from the chassis and couldn't be from the motor mounts. He said I couldn't do anything about it if the sound is coming from the chassis.
I don't know if he half-assed the work or if he is telling the truth. All I know is that the motor mounts have just been replaced along with the transmission mount. but the sound doesn't seem safe to just ignore. I was doing some reading and relized there are body mounts.
My first question is can the clattering sound be coming from the body mounts and what do body mounts do? Thanks for any help given.

The 3rd gen camaros don't have body mounts. The subframes and the body are permanently welded together. The older camaros had body mounts!!!
You said the tranny mount was replaced recently. I would check the crossmember and make sure it was tightened. Or you could be hearing a bad u-joint.

Re: Can someone PLEASE help me with this noise??
ball joints
busted strut(s)
lower control arm (suport next to drive shaft)
busted shock
ujoint
mechanic left a couple bolts loose on the motor mounts
battery not mounted to car
trunk not shut all the way
trany mount
tie rod end bushings
seat isnt bolted down well
tighten bolt on air cleaner
loose lugnuts
hood is loose or stops are worn
spare tire is loose
these are the few I could think of off the top of my head that you can kinda quickly check and easily check.

Re: Can someone PLEASE help me with this noise??
I had a similar noise on an 87 Z28 and just replaced the 4 link bolts using kits that cost $4 each for the front stabilizer and $5 on rear axle. They clanked before and handling wasn't great. rubber was obviously gone on the old link kits. hope this works for you.
