Transmission Type?

i have an 86 z28 does it have a 700-r4 in it?

I would think so. Check your RPO codes here and if your codes say MD8, that is what you have. My old 84 Camaro had a 700R4 so I am pretty sure that is what you have.

I think all 3rd gens like '85/86+ had 700R4's. Wasn't 82-84 the only years of the 200?

If it's a 4 speed auto (check the shift indicator) then it's a 700R4. That's the only A4 offered in the third gen although later years it's now called a 4L60 or 4L60E

As mentioned above the 82-84 but I think it's actually 82-83, the 3 speed Metric 200 was another option.

There's no reason the tranny couldn't be something else. It doesn't take much to swap in a TH350 or TH400 but if you believe it's still original then it's a 700R4.
