transmission swaps
i think this post could be informative if a lot of people could tell what they know so anyway what are the differences between transmissions (manual and automatic) in bolt paterns and compatability with engines and crossmembers for example t5 t56 t10 the 200r 350 400 and 700r4.
which ones are interchangeable with driveshaft/engine/ crossmember combos and what are some good and bad points of the different trannys.
anyone that could add any knoledge would be very apreciated thanx.

I don't know a lot about all of the transmissions, but I do know thw 700r4. I've rebuilt a few and it's a solid tranny that's easily upgraded through numerous aftermarket parts and accessories.
Though most of my experience is with motors of 475Hp or less, these tranny's hold up beautifully under harsh conditions when slightly modified. For my cars it's the only trans I'll run as of now...
I get great low end acceleration from the low 3.06 ratio first gear, and good fuel economy from the .70 ratio Overdrive. And with the shift kit installed and the "Vette servo", I get firm very positive upshifts chirping the 10" tires.

The Borg-Warner T-56......six forward gears. What more do I need to say?
It's nearly a bolt-in swap if you have a T-5 car, and not THAT much more difficult on a 700-R4 car. You can use your stock driveshaft and torque arm from either of those trannies and the shifter just happens to come through the floorpan at just the right place for the center console. There are a few good companies that make crossmembers if you can't make your own, and most of what you need for the swap can come out of the car that the trans came out of. The T-56 is factory underrated at 450ftlb, and the .5:1 overdrive lets you run a 3.73 or 4.10 gearing without a significant loss of gas mileage.
