transmission problems

transmission problems

i have a 1991 305 z28 with a 700R4 last week my transmission started with problems first it wouldn't go to 3rd gear. on sunday i got in my car and put in drive and it wouldn't move and then in overdirive and still it wouldn't move. know i have to go to 1 then to drive. i don't know anything about transmission what can it be. can I fix it or should I buy another transmission?

Just get it rebuilt, I would think a 91 would be about due for a tranny rebuild anyway.

does your car go through all the gears with no slipping once you put it in first and take off then shift to each gear.Could be sticking valves in the valve body or time for a rebuild.

No i have to take off in 1 then i go to drive and then it doesn't get third gear the rpm just goes very high. how much is a transmission rebuilt and is it hard or can i do it.

Will a transmission form a truck fit a camaro or does it have to from another camaro. becuase a can get a transmission from a truck very cheap but i don't know if it will fit.

Depends on teh kind of tranny, if its a 700R4 like the one in yuor Camaro it should bolt right up.

in texas you should be able to get a basic rebuild for $800.00 bucks.Going with a used trans for something you are going to keep is not the way to go.Unless they can provide facts of a rebuild within 15000 miles or you can test it out before you buy,of course it would still have to be in a car or truck.

I had that same problem. Something with the bands or shift kit. IT wouldve cost me a grand for the patch (which he wouldnt guarentee) or $1500 for the rebuild. I went to bowtie overdrive, and bouhg t a rebuilt for $900, better deal for me.
