would anyone know what would be a good but cheap tranny i can swap into my 90 rs 305 tbi? ive got about 1000 to spend on one but i would like to make it as far under that as passible, my current stock tranny (700-r4) is pretty much shot.

You could get a mechanic to rebuild it for that kind of money if he did it on the side. Other than that, $1K would not even cover a standard R&R with rebuild and certainly not if you need a torque converter.

 

I know of a good trans guy in Redford, MI.. He does all my work.. Had my trans rebuilt and a 9.5 2400-2600 convertor and a shift kit around 2k, installed and adjusted the tv cable for me. He did the 700R-4 in my tahoe too. that was alittle more expensive.. I had to get a whole new core.. Bad u-joints vibrated so bad that it cracked the whole casing... Luckily the transfer case held up... I stand by his work.. Been to alot of trans. guys in my life went through four turbo 400's with bad trans guys... Can't trust most of them.. and a Art Carr is way out of budget for most.. Can you get it to Redford, MI?

 

Find one in the classifieds here and on thirdgen.org, there are plenty of used built trannies under $1K.

 

I had my 700r rebuilt with a transgo shift kit kevlar bands ect. And a 2025 stall converter and it was $850 that also included a 25,000 lb tranny cooler and it wasnt a cheap rebuild either the man is very respected and known for his work. Im in rogers AR so maybe stuff like that is cheaper i dont know..
