tranny question

I have a 700r4 in my 84 camaro, and the only time that it grabs and good gear is a little under 20mph and right under 45mph and all the other times is just down shifts to 3rd gear and thats it. An it has a 350 crate motor with headers, edlerblock 600 carb and it has 3.23 gears.

Have you tried adjusting the Throttle Valve cable? If that is out of adjustment it can really screw with a 700r4.

If you don't know how to adjust it I can tell you.

Its pretty easy, you can do it without any tools if you want, but a large philips screw driver makes it easier to push the adjustment button in. The button is fairly obvious. On some aftermarket cables its D shaped or square shaped. On factory cables its almost always a Rectangle shape.

Find the throttle cable bracket

1, with the engine off press the TV cable adjustment button in and hold it.

2, then grab the cable sheath (black casing that surrounds the cable and pull it back towards the firewall. If your cable is a factory unit it should click as you pull it back. Once the TV cable has moved as far as it can towards the firewall release the button and hop inside the car.

3, Once thats done get in the car and with the engine off push the gas pedal down as far as it will go. If it is a ratcheting cable you will hear the adjustment mechanism adjust itself.

And thats it.
