TPI to Carb swap
TPI to Carb swap
i've read up a bit on this using the search on this forum, and i've learned some things but i still have some questions....my engine is around a 90 vette engine, if I were to swap this over to a carb, would a regualar manifold like the performer RPM fit right in there? i heard they are different angles....would it be easier to just yank out the whole engine(sell it), and do a build up of a older already carbed 350? and one other question, what is a hiquality intake? is a performer RPM a pretty good one? thanks in advance...
All you have to do is look at the valve covers. If they're centerbolt, get the '87+ style intake. If they're perimeter bolts, get the early model ('86 and older) intake.
I run a Performer RPM on my 355 and am very happy with it. What intake you get depends on how you want the engine to perform. If it's a street car that you plan to rev to around 5500-6000 when racing the Performer RPM is great. For higher revs, use a single-plane intake. For more off-idle torque, use a dual-plane with longer runners like the Performer (or keep the TPI....it's a GREAT torque-maker.)

so would it be easier to just buy an older 350, beef it up, and than sell the TPI motor, and put in the built 350? or should i just put the new intake and carb on the vette motor, and sell the whole TPI intake, computer, and all the wiring....if i should keep the vette motor, would it be easier to mod it still in the car, or should I just save myself the aggervation and take it out to work on it...this is gonna be a winter project for the 2004/2005 winter...i'm just tryin to plan out what i'm gonna do...
If you intend to change heads and cams and all that, you're better off building an engine and swapping them. If you think you'll be keeping the longblock stock for a while, just convert it to carb and sell me your throttlebody, ECM, and wiring harness.
i'm still debating...because i eventually wanna get head work done, and a cam too...but we have a performance shop nearby, and he said he can do my heads...but i think i would be better of if i just started from scratch and built an engine the "right way", instead of modifing this one...how much money do you think i could get for this engine..it has low miles, it has centerbolt valve covers meaning its a 87-91....i think i'll just find an older 350, and built it from the ground up, it'll give me something to keep me out of trouble
