tire width

I just got a set of thirdgen. z28 rims for my trans am and was wondering what's the widest size tire i can fit on them. I think they're 7 inches wide. Thanks
Derrick

Assuming they are 15", which means they are 7" wide:

Widest on all 4 corners is 235/60r15. They were even optional on 85 and 86 models. You could go with 245/50r15, but they might rub a little in front and they are only 25" as opposed to 26"

Widest safely on the rear is 255/60r15. Some people have put on 265/50r15, 275/50r15, 275/60r15 or even 295/50r15 That's just plain dangerous!

Didn't I just say that was dangerous?

Besides, they will rub... The car will handle like $hit... It'll look stupid... AND you will gain very little advantage in traction if any!

tire sizes

they will look really cool, not sh*tty. The fender well will rub on the outside of the tire, where the lettering is when you go over bumps, or have passengers in the back seat. Not worth the pain, especially if you get a blowout@60k plus. If you really want wide tires, get a mini tub, and do it the right way.

AndrewC - maybe your tastes are different, but all those I listed above I've seen in person, and all looked like ***. All jacked up in the rear, outer edge of the tread scraped off, quarter panels rusting from the paint being rubbed off. Looked like it belonged to a redneck in a trailer

You can safely fit up to a 305/50r15 on a 15x10 without tubbing. I've done it. No rubbing and fit in the wheelwells just fine - handled like crap though.

The tires are too tall. 235/70r15 is usually only found on trucks
