Question timing for 92 305 TPI

I was wondering what the timing should be set at for a 1992 Camaro Z28 305 TPI. I think it was set for performance when i first got it but i recently had it tuned and i think they set it back to stock, idiots. I've heard 8 - 10, what do you think?

I'm running 8 with pretty good results in the hot summer air. Engine temp is usually around 160-180.

Tried 13 Pinged... 11 and it pinged pretty bad too

I'm even hitting it with a 100 shot on 8 degrees so far. No testing but i'm sure a little retard will help power. Who knows

Thumbs down

When a person does this, it raises the timing throughout the entire band. The ECM thinks it has so many degrees of timing based on the fact that it assumes that you have set it to 6 deg. If you set it to 8 deg, it still thinks you have 6. The proper way to get more timing is to go into the chip and do it there. For certain RPMs, it might flow better and certain it does not. As such, it might feel better but have some light knock at WOT. The ECM will retard the timing but it needs to knock before the ECM will retard it. The KS is a safeguard not to allow you to run as much timing and disregard it. Each time it pings and retards the timing (loses power) it hurts the engine. Either learn to write your own EPROMS or get someone to do it for you.

Check your VECCI label under the hood, it tells the engine size (5.0L/5.7L etc),plug type and gap, the timing (6*BTDC) it even tells you to disconnect the EST wire etc,etc....
For performance, yes, start at 10*BTDC raise it 2* at a time until it pings, then back it off 2*. If you use a chip as JET/Hypertech etc, use the stock setting like 6*BTDC , b/c they add timing in the chip.
