The KS is fine. You need to unplug the timing advance when you are taking the timing readings.

What I was saying is that you need a scantool to see if the engine is pinging if you are going to turn the timing up via the distributor. This is because the ECM is assuming you have a base timing of 6 deg. That way, if the ECM advances the timing by 10 deg, it will assume that the total timing is 16 deg. However, if you up it to 12 degrees base timing, the ECM will still think you have 16 when you have 22. It may not give enough fuel or whatever. This goes on throughout the band. If you are really intent on getting more power, get a custom EPROM that will increase the timing at the points you need it and back it down when you don't.

This is why I don't like to adjust the timing and fuel pressure. Because you are making changes throughout instead of the place you need it. What can happen is that you have more power down low but at higher RPMs it pings. When it does, the ECM reacts by decreasing timing till it stops pinging. However, before it does, some damage is being done. A little damage here and a little there and soon you have a lot of damage.
