ignition module

so we've decided it's my ignition module goin out that's making my car run like it is. When the module goes out will it be real inconsistant. as in sometime the car runs fine and others not so fine?

It could be your Ignition module but without knowing the exact problems your having, it's hard to say. From what I have seen though, the module is one of the first things that blows on f-bodies since they run so hot. If yours is the original one, it might not be a bad idea to replace it. At least that's one thing you won't have to worry about it later on.

Modules, in my experience, just stop working period. In HEI systems that means absolutely no spark at the plug.

I've heard of them having intermitent problems but it is usually along the lines of one day the car won't start but a few hours later it will.

If your engine is running inconsistently that suggests a loose connection somewhere in the ignition.

It could also be time to change your plug wires. They develop a lot of resistance after a while, maybe 3 or 4 years (depending how much you drive), and WILL make your engine run rough.

I have had a few modules flake out on me, where they don't work consistently. I had one where the car wouldn't start, and if you waited a little bit it would and sometimes it would die in traffic if you came to an idle. Replaced it and solved my problems.

i do believe most auto places can test it in a matter of seconds and will usually not charge you anything....thats the best way to know for sure.
