timing

how far should i bump my timing up for improved performance!

im pretty sure 6* advanced is stock, i bumped mine up to 8* but i didnt notice too much of a difference. remember the more you advance it, the higer octane you need.

im gonna bump mine up to 10* tommrow, ill let you know how it goes. if it starts to ping just back it down a little or go to a 94 octane.

i just advanced mine to 10* and im running with 93 and now my car never ran better, i can really see the difference between 3000 and 4500. id say go for it!

btw, there is an orange wire with a black tracer that needs to be unpluged before you adjust the timing. the connector is located on the passanger side of the engine compartment right up aganist the fire wall. if you dont unplug this wire you will get a false reading. when i bought my car and checked the timing the right way it was 8* retarded because the previous owner didnt unplug this wire. just thought id add that in, good luck!

Id get a custom ERPOM if you want to mess with the timing. Mine is done thru the EPROM not the distributor. That is the base timing and mine is set at 6 deg like stock. This could cause detonation when it gets warmer and all it will do is hurt your motor in the long run and in the short run, the ECM will pull out timing anyway when it hears detonation. However, not before some damage is done.

Detonation hurts an engine even if you can't hear it. It occures before you hear it.
