Is it time for new brakes??

There is a squealing noise sometimes when I drive around and it sounds like it is coming from the brakes. Once I apply the brakes it goes away. This means I need new brakes right??

Check them before you replace them. The noise should get worse when you apply the brakes over time.

Check the drums and shoes.
Mine had some really cheap pads on it when I bought it and it never did squeel. I just felt it grinding all of a sudden and when I got him I had huge scores in the rotor

same thing was happening to my car, there is this sqeaking device located on the front left brakes that starts sqeaking horribly when your brake pads get too thin. i checked my pads and they were still pretty good so i just bent out the sqeaker a little and the noise went away. jack up your front left end and take off the tire. the sqeaker is located on the bottom part of the caliper. a flathead screwdriver used with caution should bend it out enough to stop the noise but understand you need to replace the pads soon.
