Throttle Body Sticking
Throttle Body Sticking
Car is an 86 Iroc with TPI. We just got done replacing the intake manifold gasket so we had the tpi unit off. Well now the thing that moves when you press on the throttle is sticking a little bit. That causes the car to idle higher than normal, and sometimes it wont go back down. Why is it sticking and what can I do to fix it? Any help is appreciated. If you guys dont know what I am talking about I can take a picture tommorow.
Re: Throttle Body Sticking
Try taking off the cables for cruise control and trans kick down. I had a problem like that with my mustang. If it still does it then you can be certain its the throttle cable or shaft sticking. Shouldnt be hard to locate the problem. Take off the bellows and check the throttle blade movement.

Transxtreme- your PM box is full!! I can't reply to your ?'s
Sorry, Off topic.
On Topic, I would say that if you did not have this problem before removing the intake, then more than likely, you might have gotten somthing in a bind on re-install. I would make sure that all the cable are routed correctly and don't have any harsh bends in them.

Re: Throttle Body Sticking
I would just take wd40 or some kind of graphite lube and lube the linkage right on the throttle body. Then go and push the pedal a few times. I know this from 2 incidents; my dads 303 Crown Vicky Interceptor got stuck at WOT while going around a 40mph turn (mind you we were doing about 65) And the second incident was over summer while putting my Camaro at my g/f's house for the winter. I punched it, got stuck at WOT.
Re: Throttle Body Sticking
I'm not sure if you changed the gasket for high idle or not, but it's very cold where I live in the winter and I have to reconnect coolant to the T/B or it will frost up and stick.
Re: Throttle Body Sticking
Thanks for all the help guys
. It looks like it turned out to be the cruise control cable. We took that one off and it did not stick any more. So we played around with the cable and its good to go now. I will also go ahead and lub the linkage up. Now I just need to figure out why the temp rises so fast at a stop.

hey everyone, my car is doing the exact same thing. when i turn on the car it wont ignite till i hit the gas a little bit. and once i do that it revs to 3000. and stays there.. then if i go and turn it off and restart it.. it will go back down to 500-600... i dont get it.. i have a cruise control button but i dont know exactly where the cable comes in on the carberator. also what are the linkages? like the gas line to the carb? put some wd 40 on them? thanks for the help

Re: Throttle Body Sticking
to stay on topic i had this problem with my accel 58 mm twin tb. turned out the sensor on the passenger side was cutting into the tb and causing issues similar to what you described. different i know but with aftermarket sensors it's possible so it's something to think about. filed the little metal tab down and all was well.
