Third Gen F-bodies: why so expensive?

been lookin for a decent stock IROC-Z for a while, and im wondering,"Why are they running so expensive?" They're older, not as powerful as the 4th gens, but it seems IROCs run for nearly 5k. KBB says an 89 IROC is only worth about 2200, so why are they running close to 5.5?

well the blue book or black book whatever colour the book is lol on my car is around 1500, i paid 7000 (this is canadian money). You cant go by that standard because its usually assumed that the camaros will be in pretty bad shape.

As for the price, you can compare it to a 4th gen but the 4th gens are a hell of a lot more expensive especially if you get an ls1. Realistically paying 5000 american for a car that bone stock (if you get the l98) runs mid 14's, doesnt have half bad handling, and for 5000 is in mint condition and relatively low kilometers after 13 years, i dont think thats a bad price at all. Sorry to tell you but a nice car costs more then 2000

I showed some the prices of a few mint Thirds here a while back and how high they were going for. I have been in the market for these cars for years now and have seen the increase. Book value is nonsense. So why are they getting expensive already? Lets see!

It's because these cars aren't something that you see in mint condition everyday, the number of them on the streets are getting lower, they are popular cars, they are generally considered the best looking Gen, (usually along with 1st Gens too) they are the best handling Gen in terms of all out turning ability, (not ride quality) they brake good, they have good power and great Torque, (L98, LB9 T-5, G92 cars) they have a real aggressive sound that is now gone with the LS engines, they can be built to do anything extremely good performancewise without spending crazy amounts of money, they are the last that are easy to work on, they still have modern yet timeless looks, and are going to be the next really sought after cars, especially in a few more years, the top models, the 1LE's, and so on. I honestly see more Thirds (especially nice ones) at cruise nights and at car shows than I do on the streets. Over time this happens. And it seems to be happening unusually fast for Thirds as some are already more money than mid-later 2nds, which of course have more years on them. Then factor in that F-Bodies are no longer in production. And even when they are made again, Thirds are still a part of the original 35 year run. They are also looked at as the Gen that brought back performance to the brand, brought in EFI, and started it all off again which allowed the 4ths to progress in power like they did. Also, these cars were the most popular cars on the road when brand new and you can bet that some of the original owners are gonna one day come looking for some nice ones to own again. I could keep going but I'll stop there. They are great cars.

I can't even see 15,900. It's not THAT badass....it has a basic crate 350, a built 700-R4, and a 4.10 10-bolt. I've seen half a dozen 3rd gens like that on TGO and in the for sale section here in the last 2 weeks......and for less than 1/4 of what they're asking! Hell the biggest selling point is the pearl paint.

The only reason the price is so high is because the work was all done by a dealership. We all know how they like to inflate their egos (and prices.)

I've seen the trend recently too. And it really IS harder to see nice thirdgens about. Thirdgens have their pit falls, but they are also excellent cars to build on for more power or performance. Stock they aren't slow but still faster than a great deal of cars. No longer top of the line, but still fun to drive. And a nice thirdgen DOES get admiring looks. And as far as handling goes they can STILL keep up with newer cars easily.

Though most of the comments on my car are usually, "Is that a Turbo charged one?" Makes me feel bad. My car is a white GTA and because the badging is in a similar place to the TTA people mistake it for one at a distance.

I bought my car for $1,000 and have slowly been bringing it back. Bought it with a blown engine, so I couldn't drive it. Was told the transmission was good. They lied. Transmission was shot, and they screwed up the electrical system when they pulled the alarm out of the car. I still am tracing the damned short. So many problems. Would have skipped the car if I knew what I'd have to do to it. However, its mine and I will finish the project.
