If you take off the valve you might have Emissions problems with inspection. You will also most likely trigger the check engine light. Anyone else?

Yep. He nailed it.

However, the auto cars, if running in "park" on the gear selector defeat the EGR. I found this out when doing research about what to do after swapping to a 5 speed. But, if you still have an auto and need reverse lights, you are stuck with a prom to defeat it.

I believe it will trip a code 32 EGR. To avoid that, you will need a custom EPROM

www.fasterproms.com will do a good job. They will burn it to your specs and then if you borrow their DIACOM program and load it onto a laptop, you can email them the readings and they can reburn it and reburn it till it gets right on to be a true custom chip. Lingenfelter will want your car for a week to get it custom because they also take readings based on road tests. Some will take readings and make adjustments based on dyno tests. Any other way of doing it is simply a SWAG.

Slow Roc, I am doing pretty much the same thing as you. I have a 357 engine (bored.040) 062 vortec heads, Hot cam w/ 1.6 rockers. The induction system I will be using is a TPI and am currently saving some $$ to get the SDPC vortec tpi manifold which has provisions for EGR vavle. Are you going to use the SDPC vortec manifold?

yeh i was wondering about drivablilty issues and if codes would set and about a custom prom fix those issues... and ... yeh zrs i have the sdpc base but u have to get a kit to get the actual exhaust gas up to the intake and modify your exhaust manifold or headers since the vortec heads dont have the erg ports on them i was planning on just putting plates over the erg (were the valve set) and the little place behind the runner i was thinkin about running the hot cam with 1.6 but got a slp 51004 cam with 1.5 roller tips for a really good deal so coudlnt complain

You'd want a custom chip to take care of it and to optimize the system for the new upgrades so that should not be an issue.

www.fasterproms.com is also the same price. They can lend you datalogging software to put onto your laptop and you can email them results from home. That way, they can adjust it to be truely custom nd you can flog it on a deserted strech of road at night and go with that. No need for dyno fees. When it has reached it's final burn, you send them back the old chips and $350. Next time you do this again it will cost you $150 to get it dialed in. However, you will not be doing it again unless you have done some major mods.
