Re: t5 to t56 swap ????

He'll need a new crossmember.
He'll also need to make the hole in his trans tunnel about 2" longer towards the back.
Hydraulics may need to be the T56 ones and he "Should" be able to use his stock pedals.
Then he'll need the LT1 flywheel and clutch kit.
He'll also need a SGI box to get the speedo to work right.

I'm actually the guy looking to do the swap. However, I dont have a stock T5. I have a stock 700R4. Does the same mods still apply Zepher??

How to swap a manual tranny into an automatic F-Body
http://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/manualswap.shtml

That article is for a T5 so just make sure you are using t56 parts and not t5 parts. And yes everything Zepher mentiond still applies although you don't have any hole in your trans tunnle yet so you need to cut one out, and obviously your stock pedals won't work you need to get a set that has the clutch pedal.

Re: t5 to t56 swap ????

I just did an Auto to T5 swap on my Formula and we did an Auto to T56 swap in my friends Trans Am last year.
My 86 is a T5 to T56 swap which I haven't finished yet. T56 is still on the garage floor.

When cutting the hole, if you can get a really good measurement you won't need a huge hole in the trans tunnel. On the trans am we made a hole about 6"x5".

the hardest part was removing the Auto from the cars, cutting the holes for the shifter and for the clutch master cylinder wasn't very hard at all, just had to measure the holes.

What some people do (I didn't think of this when I did my swap) was to put the pedals in the car and then mark the holes for the clutch master cylinder and the holes for the U-bracket that hold the clutch MC in.
What we did on my car was measure the holes from the donor car (my friends 88 GTA that the T5 came out of) and cutting then out from the engine bay.
If you do it my way, the brake booster needs to come out, if you do it the other way, the brake booster stays in. It's best to do it the other way.
