Thumbs up T-56 trans into 3rd gen can only handle 450 Ft. LBS TOrque??? I Need more

I am currently building a 400 block, highlky modified but this is going ot be a street car in a 92 camaro. I am going to spray it a wee bit as well with a NX direct port kit. I know I am going to be going over the 450 ft lbs torque rating for the t-56 that I am going to put in my car. WHat can be done to beef up a manual trans??? I know with an auto I could have it beefed up and get a nice torque converter but I don't want an auto. THanks guys.

I've seen T56's handle 700 ft/lbs with no problems. They're a strong transmission. If you want more then look into the Tremec, or a full-on race tranny.

My brother runs a 84Z with a 13:5:1 434 that dynoed at 636 FWHP/622 FWTQ. He has a Tilton triple disc clutch in front of a T56 from a 93 TA. The stock ten bolt grenaded the first time it hooked. Now he has a 9" behind it. 93-97 T56's can take a beating. I run a Tremec TKO five speed for the torque rating and the road race gear set. Can't go wrong either way-both of our cars fried 700R4's prior. Hope this helps.

i have seen stock t56's handle over 750. you can go to liberty transmission or D+D to have it beefed up. if your looking for a higher rated trans the ZF they used in C4 vettes and the 92 firehawk was validated to 600 ft-lbs. the problem is finding the bellhousing for it slp used to sell a conversion kit.

The Z4 used up to 93 in the C4s was only rated at 450ftlbs. I'm not sure what it's actually capable of though. From 94-96 the rating went down to 400ftlbs because the straight-cut gears were too noisy for all the bald 50 year old fat men that bought them, so the gears had to be changed so that the trans was quieter.

The T-56 is alot stronger than they rate it. Even if it doesn't stand up it can be built to handle a lot. There are a few 9 second cars running T-56's. Alot of 10 second cars.

future mods:

I'm just giving you its official rating. Like the T56, it can certainly handle more.

The ZF was the 6 speed gm used before they swapped to the t-56. The t-56 is very strong! The weak spot in the trans is the tail shaft. Get one from a viper theyre much stronger.

The ZF is the 6 speed that was run in the 1989 through 1996 Corvette. Use the T-56 it is cheaper and just as strong as the ZF.

If you want bullit proof manuals, you're looking the street versions of Jeffco's, Lenco's, Liberties, etc... We are just putting a Liberty into the super street car now (1400+hp). Should be at Orlando in October (if testing goes good) with it shooting for 7.60's.
