t-56 swappers in here.

My transmission went out today. It's a 700-r4. I want a standard transmission and was wondering how much it would cost me to swap from the auto to the t-56.

i would go to www.ddperformance.com

also if you can read June 2003s issue of Chevy High Performance(pages 72-80) it will tell you everything you need to know about T56 transmissions

You'll need the trans of course...prices for those vary. Mine was from a 93 Z28($450 local junk yard). Also, slave/master cylinder from GM Part #12557509($130 from Jason Cromer), flywheel(bought used for $50 from www.car-part.com), pedal assembly, trans mount($15 from local auto parts store), clutch kit($312 from www.dial-a-clutch.com-Luk) & a retrofit crossmember. Spohn sells them for like $100 unless you are good with a welder and feel like fabricating your own. Actaully, not a very difficult swap as long as you have tools and a good freind to help. I had the trans rebuilt by an excellent local trans shop for $600. My car was already a 5 speed car so no need for pedals. I haven't had any problems yet and the trans shifts excellent and smooth. The gas mileage improvement is fantastic. I have a 3.42 rear end from a 4th gen also. While I was at it, I got a 4th gen aluminum drive shaft for like $80. These are everywhere if you look. Good luck.

I spent right at $2000 to convert from 700-R4 to T-56, including a B&M shifter ($160) and SPEC stage 3 clutch ($500). I also had to get a Centerforce flywheel to mate the T-56 to a 1-piece rear main block ($300) which you won't need if you have a '87 or newer car.

I'd say you can expect to spend $1500-2000 depending on whether you get upgraded parts or just stick it in and make it work.

I think I have a $2400 in the swap...bought the tranny for $1800...it was out of a 97 Z28 with about 30,000 miles on it. $420 for the centerforce flywheel and had to have it balanced. Bought the pedals and shift plate for console from a local wrecking yard. It was all well worth it in my opinion! I've got 4.10 gears in a 4th gen rear and I turn about 2000 rpm @ 70 mph. Not sure about gas mileage b/c I cant keep my foot out of it...lol
